Hello and welcome to the Pioneer Exchange. The clip below is of Barry Barkan at the St. Louis Accord last month. Over 400 stakeholders (state surveyors, Quality Improvement Organization leaders, ombudspersons, and interested providers) from 49 states came together to learn about culture change in long-term care. This 3 minute clip features Barry sharing his insights about community development.

I'm the guy who will be twisting the arms of all my friends and colleagues to get them to post something here and get a conversation going about culture change!

Barry challenges us to think about the three or four things we can do to build community...Here's mine...

I'm co-authoring a paper with my friend Imy Higbie, the retired professor of Social Work and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin. She's a consumer voice for elder-centered care in Rhode Island.  I'm guessing she'll be commenting here that the first thing I can do is finish that paper! (she keeps me in line! :)

Second thing?  

I can go out to Portland and "live blog" the Pioneer Institute there next week.  Folks are welcome to help me with that one!

And the last?

Why launch the Pioneer Exchange of course (again, with your help!)
