Roll Call Project: KANSAS

Leaders from across Kansas met yesterday to help lay the groundwork for a new culture change coalition there. They formed a steering committee and laid out some strategic goals for the next year in terms of the coalition's organization.
There is a lot of great work going on already in Kansas, so the coalition has an advantage getting organized. (Kansas was host to the 2004 Pioneer Network conference!)
The PEAK (Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas) nursing home initiative was created by the Kansas Department on Aging in order to promote more social, non-traditional models of long-term care. The 2005 recipients of the Kansas PEAK Award were:

* Medicalodge of Wichita, T. Marie Hock-Rasdon, administrator.
* The Cedars, McPherson, Carla Lehman, administrator.
* Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Willie Novotny, administrator.
* Pleasant View Home Inc., Inman, Jalane White, administrator.
* Schowalter Villa, Hesston, James Krehbiel, administrator.
Four facilities are repeat winners.

The Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. is the QIO in Kansas, and they enjoy an excellent working relationship with the state surveyors as they promote person-directed care throughout Kansas.
