Carter Williams graduated from Wellesley College in 1945 and earned her MSW from Simmons College School of Social Work (Boston). She is a Certified Social Worker in the State of New York and a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
Her honors include the National Leadership Award given by the Older Women's League of Washington, D.C. and the President's Award of the American Society on Aging, presently jointly with her husband, Dr. T. Franklin Williams, formerly the Director of the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Aging.
