Wow - am I tired! But very excited about the conferences Voices held in Frederick and Cumberland, Maryland over the weekend. Since we asked all of the conference participants to come up with 5 ideas to grow culture change in their communities, I thought it would be fitting to come up with my own personal list.

1.) Seek a grant to purchase M-A-N-Y copies of Follow the Sunbeam; give out to facility staff, family members, and residents; community groups; host an on-line book club to share thoughts and ideas.

2.) During my inservices to staff and outreach presentations, discuss Culture Change and suggest going to Pioneer Network.

3.) One of the facilities in my county is changing ownership, start the discussion with new management.

4.) I am meeting with a Family Council on the 26th of this month - I will make Culture Change part of the discussion and bring something i.e. clips, video, list of websites either to show and/or share.

5.) Ask at least one of the facilities, in conjunction with their Family & Resident Councils, to add and define "Culture Change" to their Quality Assurance Measures.

See what happens when we just "start the discussion"...we bring out new ideas in each other!
I will make these my goals for the next year.
Hope everyone enjoyed the conferences! I know I did.
Thanks to Voices, Joe, & Carol.
See Ya in Columbia

Progress of My Culture Change Plan (4.00 / 1)

Here is an accounting of my progress:
1.)I received my copy of In Pursuit of the Sunbeam and in process of reading.
2.) I met with a Family Council and added Culture Change to the discussion and provided website resources - especially highlighted Pioneer Network.
3.) I have added Culture Change to inservice and outreach presentations along with website resources - and highlighted Pioneer Network.
4.) Finding a grant; talking about Culture Change with new management; and asking facility, FC, & RC to add and define CC to QA measures - all are in process.
If anyone has any suggestions or great ideas please feel free to pass them along!

Great job Kim! (none / 0)

Is that Family Council interested in participating in the Maryland pilot initiative, whereby we provide  copies of our Getting Started resource to both the Family Council and the organization and ask that they pursue the culture change exercises collaboratively?

Getting Started (none / 0)

I will ask the family council chairperson about possible participation. The chairperson is new, so I don't know what type of relationship she and the facility are developing. But, I am definately keeping that particular FC & facility in mind!
Thanks & see you in November!
