Nearly 400 people from a broad spectrum of the nursing home world came together yesterday in Washington to officially launch the Advancing Excellence in America's Nursing Homes campaign.

The campaign's unprecedented coalition includes long-term care providers, caregivers, medical and quality improvement experts, government agencies, consumers and others. Together, we are building on the success of other quality initiatives, including Quality First, the Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI), the culture change movement, and other quality initiatives.

The presentations of the speakers are available for download.

My own presentation (opens as a .pdf) concluded with a video that obviously couldn't be included as part of the downloadable .pdf, so I'm copying it in below.  It's of Imy Higbie, my 88 yr. old friend in Rhode Island.

I shared this clip to emphasize that including consumers and family members in this campaign is essential for creating the sense of urgency needed to meet its goals -- a point expressed very well by Alice Hedt of NCCNHR later during the day.

I want to commend the organizers of the event and the broader campaign for initiating this important work.  Please join today to help make it happen.

Organizing for change (none / 0)

Are folks familiar with "Web 2.0" technology?  The Pioneer Exchange is an example of this, to the extent that it enables "social networking."

How might the Advancing Excellence campaign make use of such new communication tools to help spread the word and make it possible for like-minded individuals in local areas to organize for change?
