Progress on Culture Change in So. Maryland

Well, it has been slow but we are making some progress!

I am almost done with "In Pursuit of the Sunbeam". I love the story about Maxine kicking people out who didn't knock on the household's door - even the administrator. I love it. I also loved the story about the woman who would have her granddaughter over to bake cookies and they would spend the afternoon eating cookies, drinking milk, and reading books. That is definately a true home.
I continue to talk about Culture Change to residents, family members, and staff during inservices, meetings, etc.
Voices for Quality Care is going to host a mini Culture Change Conference on April 29th, discussing Quality of Life and specifically activity programs and what other facilities are doing in terms of Culture Change.
I have introduced one of the 3 nursing homes in my area to Voices and they are hoping to get them into the pilot program.
I have 3 new volunteers and 1 Human Services student starting in the Ombudsman program. I will start introducing them to Culture Change and have a few coming to the mini conference in April.
If anybody has any suggestions for other avenues of getting the word out and inspiring others, don't hesitate to let me know!

"Tale" DVD (none / 0)

Our agency purchased a Tale of Transformation DVD! So, I am in the process of trying to schedule times at the local nursing homes to show it to families, residents, and staff. I am also going to start showing it to my Volunteer Ombudsman.
Unfortunately, the facilities in this county seem to be making very slow progress in terms of CC. The work is going to be hard and recruiting key people (residents, staff, families, etc.)to spur the facilities on to change is going to be the biggest challenge. For example, a comment made by one of the NH's: "now with all this CC stuff going on, everybody is going to want to have their own way". Oh Man! Talk about having our work cut out for us!
I will keep plugging along....
